The beautiful brick residence of Col. Ronald will soon be completed, and is said to be one of the most conveniently arranged in town. A wood dwelling, to be occupied by Mrs. Emily Lybrook, is in course of erection in the suburbs of the city.
Messrs. Thomas & Co., a new firm, have opened a dry goods and grocery establishment at Mr. W. G. Sarvay's old stand, on Main street. See advertisement.
Our enterprising townsmen, Dr. W. B. Conway and Messrs. Bell & Co., have set a good example for the inhabitants of Blacksburg by paving the street in front of their respective establishments. Now, citizens, follow.
Telegraph poles for a line between Blacksburg and the Yellow Sulphur Springs, have been erected, and the line will soon be established and ready for use.
Dr. Elliott, formerly of Dublin, Va., is now occupying the residence of Dr. Black, who moved to Williamsburg a short time ago. We welcome the Doctor to our town, and wish him much success.
We are sadly in need of funds to run the GRAY JACKET. Unless we are provided with the means, we will have to let our little paper drop; and now, students and citizens of the community, and students ex-officio, come to our assistance. Help us in this little work ; subscribe, and get your friends to subscribe, and you will prove friends indeed.
Sixty students have matriculated at this College since the opening of this half-session, and many more are expected.
At the meeting of the Board of Visitors on the 15th of last February Gen. Wm. Boggs, of Ga., was elected Professor of the Mechanical Department, Dr. W. B. Conway, Physician of the College and Col. Berkley Farm Manager.
